Serial griefing of my town and resident's build

Salutations,
It is with a heavy heart that I write this post.  My little village has been griefed on several occasions now and it is quite disheartening when the folks I invited to live with me have been hurt by the griefers.

BlueFox had his build griefed.

J_NoobYT, however has suffered most:
- Items taken from his armor stands
- windows broken after I advised him to lock is door ( after he was greifed the 1st time )
- the Nether portal he built broken
- His reeds taken ( all of the reeds in the village were )
-The bookcases he placed around the enchanting table taken

They took crops without replanting, left floating trees in our jungle tree farm ( while taking beans from the bean farm ), the iron grates from the blacksmith, once left blocks in and out of the fenced village and this time broke a fence to get in ( though I had unlocked the gates after the first griefer left blocks in and out over the fence) then left via a gate which they left open after they left.  When one strives to build a nice place and is welcoming to all, having that place griefed is heart breaking.  I do not mind that much the damage they did to what I had built..except for the cows I worked so hard to lead to our village as all the cows in the area had been killed and did not respawn any longer.  What bothers me most is the damage and theft that befell folks I invited to live in and around my village.  I feel like I failed these folks.  I replaced what I could, but some things you can't replace...feeling safe in your home cannot be replaced. ' I can take so much til I've had enough'. Please try to do a bit more to discourage griefing as my village is not close to spawn, but has been repeatedly griefed in the past week.

Hey Klein, do you have coords to hand? If you do I can roll back the damage for you and also see who did it so the appropriate action can be taken. Either that or just msg me or any other staff ingame.

If you're getting griefed frequently it might be an idea to set up a claim in the area using a gold shovel

As someone who also tried to have a town close to spawn once, I can say with confidence that griefing will be extremely common until you have enough claim blocks to claim the whole town or everyone claims their own stuff. It's an unfortunate combination of trying to get everyone in your town to get their claims right - there might be rules about how close people's claims can be to each other, I'm not sure - and your town being a prime target for every tourist coming out of spawn not knowing this isn't a factions server. Now I don't know how much you've done already, but it'll probably be easier regardless to move way out now rather than later.

If you're interested, I can teleport you out 16k to where I'm building. There's virtually nothing else for quite a ways around and you're welcome to build wherever you like. I have way more stone than I know what to do with if you need blocks to rebuild buildings.
Cattle die and kinsmen die, every man is mortal. Words of praise will never perish, nor a noble name.

I am not close to spawn being 3.5k by 16k away. Claiming the entire village is not an option as I would like the farms ( crop and tree ) to be available to whom ever wants/needs to harvest things. I've been playing on servers since before hunger was introduced to the game and this is the first server with anti-griefing rules where griefing has been an issue. With signs inviting folks to take what they need while asking them nicely to replace what they take, it is disheartening to have one's village griefed...repeatedly. It is, unfortunately the 'claim system that I believe is central to the problem as I have seen folks openly in speaking about taking things from unclaimed areas*....because they are unclaimed as if this gives folks the right to grief a build which it should not. No griefing should mean NO griefing period. My village gets griefed every few days even with Staff being aware of the issue**. Veo has replaced jungle trees and removed random blocks used to get over fencing ( though the gates are all unlocked and I usually find an open gate they entered through, but could not be bothered to exit via nor close behind them ).

Captainherpaderp and Miseikoo were out adventuring, found a place and openly in chat with Staff right there proceeded to have a field day. I do not know that they actually took anything, but they marveled at all the stuff in the area like chests and horses, but that was too far up in the scroll for me to capture.

This hop over block is right next to an unlocked gate!

...and a gate left open. The also took the iron bars I replaced in at the blacksmith from the last time. This time taking the lava as well.

as well as a residents enchanting table after an earlier griefer had taken all the bookcases.

Aside: Always grow giant jungle trees! Not only do they take up less space, but you get more wood for your seedling, and given the low drop rate of seedlings from harvested trees, you are more likely to be able to have a sustainable farm going on. _Fortune_ helps too.

Spiral up to the top, then back down, leaving some vines to help as a bit of a safety net (which you don't get with giant spruce).

My go-to trees for wood are giant jungle, dark oak, and birch - unless I want a specific colour. Going to have to start farming more oak for 1.13 - :|
